Is everything a learning opportunity perhaps not!!!

The reason this topic comes up is the feeling of most people that given any activity/task/problem treat it as a learning opportunity!!! Well does everything in life really give you some benefit isn't that being too self driven..... Not to say be a saint and “Karm Karo Phal ka iccha math karo”.

Well, I can argue about it in both ways but I somehow tend to argue the other way "Finish it off and if you get something on the way take it...”

This I guess would help me, I do not get let down if there is nothing in it for me... well I would just feel well someone wanted it and I did it an I move on...

If there is a learning coming out, OK that’s good one or a bad one and I carry something from it...

The most important thing is that how do I know that there is a learning coming out of this one or not.... am I an astrologer??? This is again subjective, if you find a lot of things at the start of something then naturally things fade out and there is a time when you only apply learning. Then there are thing where you feel everything done is what I know and suddenly at the end there is a big rock which has in bold written "this is not the way out" here you go!!!! You learn at the end...

Frankly till now I have not been able to determine whether I will learn from something/anything or will it just be yet another get thru thing. Yes, I also am not able to determine "What is in it for me?", I only know that I need to go at that one and then onwards see if I am sailing, rocking or sinking!!! ."What is in it for me?” this normally tends to take away the focus from the fact that there is something that needs a "FULL STOP" immediately and then there may be another "COMMA" added in my learning if possible.

At the end of the day “Karm toh Karna hi hai”…. :) Well that only a thought, the other side of the coin is always welcome.....

To add to this, i remember once and enlightened manager said this "Whatever may be the technology, if your grandmother can use it, it will become a commodity." So guys dont feel that what your are doing is something which others cant learn or do and it is very proprietary. Afterall technology of today will be obsolete tomorrow. So that mantra should be make the most MONEY of what you know and forget what you learn etc..etc and all that crap.

Errr...Agree with you on some counts and tend to differ with you on others..
Firstly, when you say "What's in it for me" /"All I need to see is get the job done"...Couldn't agree with you more on that... At the end of the day, it is the result that matters... The means to the end don't quite count...

But when you speak of "how can i predict the future or what will I learn in it", I am of the belief that no matter what task you do, however trivial the task may be, there will be some new thing that will be etched into your mind and will be present in the subconscious state.. Which will be handy in some other sitution... If you are talking in terms of technology/project/IT industry then this is what we term as "experience"...
